Another Man’s Wife
by Shonda Cheekes
Marriage is a sacred institution that in the annals of literature always seem to pay dividends to authors endeavoring good returns on storyline quality. Is there anything to learn about letting go and moving on? Another Man's Wife, a new novel by author Shonda Cheekes tests this subject and the waters of infidelity as it rushes on a collision course with loyalty. Naïve and narrow-minded Yani Fenton attempts to bring semblance into her life bordering on a perfect premise that marriage is suppose to be forever. Marrying her sweetheart Jarrin, she wanted very much to have more out of wedded bliss but wasn't prepared for her husband's unexpected exit. The ensuing time frame proves to be much more than she bargained for, especially playing the waiting game. Now comes Alex Chance with an agenda of his own and looking for something different. Their attractiveness to each other begets a seemingly perfect union and a Shangri-La wedding. No wedding bell blues nor any of the drama keeps Yani from biting the bullet again. True to the title of this book, Jarrin's bigger-than-life reappearance forces gut wrenching decisions and standing tall in the face of reality. It forces Yani to answer those hard questions and make choices that will truly test her heart being another man’s wife.
What makes this novel a good read in my opinion is how the author manages to keep the story free of unnecessary clutter and the fact that it flows effortlessly between the first person narrative impressions of Yani and Alex. This is a good story of unrequited love, fulfillment and being able to make the right decisions under duress. I feel that the author has given the reading public just a faction of her talent for weaving a good story, complete with believable characters. With this in mind and knowing personally they author’s resolve for inclusion among her peers, this book has much appeal for good storytelling on a subject that never fail to deliver good drama. I like many others look forward to the next offering from Ms Cheekes. Buy this book and you won't be disappointed!
