Fever
by Linda Dominique Grosvenor

Reviewed by: Toni Bonita

Not having read Ms. Grosvenor first book Like Boogie on Tuesday, the sequel Fever leaves me in awe as to the possible actions of Sam, Tim, Carla, Troi, and Nina, in the first book. Fever is most assuredly a HOT, HOT, HOT, book. Where do I even attempt to start telling you about Fever? Fever is an unbalanced mixture of lies, secrets, love, lust, hate, forgiveness, shame, and happiness. Tim and Nina who should still be on the honeymoon based on the length of time they have been married are slowly slipping away from each other. Tim is obsessed with making it big in the film industry, while Nina feels as worthless as a dishrag. As Nina reaches a breaking point, she walks out on her husband. Can they survive apart or will they fight for the love they have for each other.

Trio, struggling to get her life back together and on track after her husband dies of AIDS. Her goals are to take care of her daughter Dakoda, and become rich by selling her hair care products. Last but not least we have Carla and Sam in a one sided marriage, Carla, sinking deeper and deeper into a hole, with Sam holding on by a thread to save his marriage and the woman he loves, not to mention being the main care giver for their daughter Ashley. Troi and Carla are best friends, Sam was the brother to Troi deceased husband; Nina and Troi are sisters. Their live and stories are all entwined together, however each character deals with their own problem while staying together as a unit. Ms Grosvenors’ story floats off the pages and carries you into the life of each character. You begin to think of them as members of your own family, you cry, hurt, feel sorry for, and have sympathy for these characters.

Carla was the character I disliked the most, while on the other had she garnered the most sympathy. Hands down Troi was the strongest in the group. Sam and Tim IMO show a certain amount of weakness. To add just the right amount of flavor we have a happy go lucky first grader Ashley, and Dakoda, a pre-teen struggling with the death of her father. I highly recommend Fever, if you have not read like Boogie On Tuesday do as I am going to do and read it.
